Don't Forget Monday's Meeting!
Unconventional
Home Gym – Monday’s POP topic
When trying to lose weight, we have learned that there are
three keys: managing your food intake/nutrition; changing your behavior in
regard to food; and exercise, exercise, exercise.
The Pounds Off Pulaski (POP) meeting for Monday, March 16 will
focus on exercise. Patricia Burton, Lake
Cumberland District Health Department Health Educator III, will give helpful
hints on exercising in your own home.
The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Lake Cumberland Regional
Hospital Conference Center on the basement level of the East Tower.
Some people are concerned because they can’t afford a gym
membership or they may feel their neighborhoods are not well-suited for
walking, jogging, or biking. But, there
are still some great, creative ways to maintain a good exercise regimen.
Patricia’s “Unconventional Home Gym” program teaches you how
to exercise in your own home, utilizing common household items. This fun, interactive presentation will
prepare attendees to get creative in becoming more fit.

Don't forget Monday's meeting!
Monday’s
Pounds Off Pulaski program: “Why Do I Overeat?”
This week’s Pounds Off Pulaski meeting will feature a presentation
by Perry Brown, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
"Why Do I Overeat?" This
is a question that people may ask themselves over and over again. Dr. Brown will help us to answer this
important question by explaining the psychology of overeating
– why we do what we do and what we can do to start making healthier
choices.
The program will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, in
the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Conference Center on the basement level
of the East Tower. Weigh-ins, will begin
at 5:00.
An experienced Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Brown
earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. He has been in practice for more than 35
years, and for the past eleven years, has been working with various bariatric
programs throughout Kentucky. In this capacity, he has performed nearly 8000
psychological evaluations of candidates for bariatric surgery, which has given
him keen insight into the problems associated with overeating.
At the POP meeting, Dr. Brown will focus on various factors
that may contribute to overeating, including:
upbringing, need for emotional comfort, culture and media, drive for pleasure
and stimulation, as a form of rebellion, as a means of control, as a way
of achieving safety and protection, and as a way of filling a void in our
lives.
“This is last month of the challenge,” said Susan Ramsey
Wilson, director of marketing and community relations at Lake Cumberland
Regional Hospital. “We are so proud of
our POP participants and how much progress they have made toward living a
healthier lifestyle. It’s exciting to
see such great results!”
