The meeting for Monday, February 3, will be  "Healthy Eating".


The Pounds Off Pulaski speaker for Monday, February 3, will be Edith Lovett, Family and Consumer Science Agent, at the Pulaski County Extension Service.  Edith’s program will focus on Healthy Eating.  She will provide important information on choosing healthy foods as well as learning how to recognize and compare unhealthy foods with healthier, lower calorie alternatives. Lovett will also discuss portion control and give easy tips to help participants learn to use the “My Plate” tool for more nutritional meals.


“This week in addition to the weigh-ins and our program with Edith Lovett, we will announce our 1st and 2nd prize money for both male and female winners, based on the highest percentage of weight lost,” said Susan Ramsey Wilson, director of marketing and community relations at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  “Weigh-ins will begin at 5:00, and Dr. John C. Mobley will be available from 5:15 until program time at 6:00 p.m. to answer any questions POP participants may have.  We will also be awarding our POP incentive prizes.”

Cathi Roskind is an experienced registered nurse, having earned her degree in 1995.  Her special interest in bariatrics led her to become a certified bariatric nurse, who is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as well as a member of ADMBS Practice Analysis Task Force for Bariatric Nurses.  Cathi has worked as a bariatric nurse since 2001.

Cathi’s program, “ Change: Lifestyle Changes . . . Lifelong” will provide important tools for POP participants to be successful in their quest to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.  Her program will cover the basics of obesity and the creative steps to take to achieve weight loss and keep the weight off.  She will discuss important tools such as realistic goal setting, journaling, and how to recognize and overcome eating triggers.

John C. Mobley, M.D., bariatric surgeon

A Laurel County native, Dr. Mobley received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine.  He completed his internship and a residency in general surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Mobley is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and of the American College of Surgeons.

Registration and weigh-ins will begin at 5:15. Dr. John C. Mobley, bariatric patient and bariatric surgeon, will be the guest speaker for tonight's program, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Mobley, M.D., bariatric surgeon, will be the first speaker of the series.  His presentation, “The Obesity Epidemic – Any Hope?” will provide important information for POP participants to help them get off to a good start on their journey to a healthier lifestyle and a lower body weight.  The program will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Is tonight inconvenient for you? No worries! You can also register and weigh-in at the first Weekly Meeting on Monday, January 13 at the hospital.  Weigh-ins will begin at 5:15 pm and the program will begin at 6:00 pm.
